For Sale 2001 LaikaEcovip 2iShortversion:7-berth motorhome in superb originalcondition, later Iveco Daily 2001 base vehicle (2.8 JTD 125bhp, speed manual, right hand drive, 4200Kg gross). Only 72,000 miles. All equipment works, recenthabitation inspection,  interior is beautiful,2x3-point seatbelts in rear plus lap belt, no pets/smoking, excellent servicehistory, long MOT, this is cherished vehicle owned by enthusiasts, ready toenjoy, only for sale due to my family no longer enjoying camping… Long version:We bought this motorhomethis spring to keep for the next years plus. Previous to this had done afull conversion of modern Ducato panel van, which was fun and learned alot, but took years and was too small for the kids who apparently keep growing. So we decided on one of these Laikas as they have an awesome layout, greatbuild quality, are stylish, bit unusual, loads of space and quite modernmechanically. Found this excellent example, after seeing some dogs, and fixedup and renewed whatever it needed… but on our trip to France this summer, itseems the family have lost the bug for motorhoming and the holiday didn’t quiteclick. So it is best if we sellit now rather than leave it idle over the winter, because it is ready for someoneto go and enjoy. am very disappointed to be selling, but there we go. am not specialist, but have runmany vans and also converted vehicles and trailers semi-professionally,including major conversion of ducato in previous years – so am veryfamiliar with all the equipment on these, and like to think am responsibleand knowledgeable owner. The plan was to keep this for many many years, so Ihave put the effort in… even bought proper £300 Protimeter damp meter to check the vans Iwas viewing. Needless to say this van checked out as damp free. owners before me – notbad for 18 years! Owned from new in Edinburgh, where understand it was aspecial order RHD model. Second owner in Glasgow, who eventually sold it afriend of his, also in Glasgow. He had it for several years and this is who Ibought it from in February this year. fastidious owner – they left an oilheater on inside constantly. This last owner workedfor big organisation which runs fleet of Iveco vans and this chap had manyfriends in the workshops. So this van has had immaculate servicing in hisownership, only ever fitted with genuine Iveco parts, serviced on the button bytime-served experts and has not wanted for anything – but there is no paperworkfor understandable reasons…To put my mind at ease heeven took me up to the workshops in the motorhome, where was allowed toinspect the van from all angles including underneath, and he and also pickedup few useful bits they no longer needed as they don’t run vans of that ageanymore: such as brake sensors, caliper bolts, bulbs, etc. He even supplied mewith four unused Iveco wheels and tyres just as spares! (sorry though, soldthese). They had recently replaced the calipers, discs and pads all round. have subsequently(July) had the van inspected and serviced by my local commercial mechanic onthe Wirral, who spent 15 years in an Iveco commercial garage and is nowindependent. He was mightily impressed, and pronounced it one of the cleanesthe had seen. So don’t have paperworkfor the last few years of servicing, but it really is in great condition for anold van, and at 72,000 miles is barely run in. The service books for theseIvecos have spaces for stamps for intervals running into many hundreds ofthousands of miles!I would welcome anyinspection you want to arrange; am very proud of the condition of thisvehicle. MechanicalIt has the 2.8 JTD 125BHP diesel, with speed manual gearbox. Twin rear wheels, and rear wheeldrive. Having camped in the Lakes this spring where it poured down, and we hadto leave uphill, on steep grassy hillside, in the mud, can attest to thetraction and grip you get with this setup – it is brilliant. It has cruise control,  speakers front and rear, supplementary heaterin rear when driving, 4200Kg heavy duty chassis, so plenty of payloadavailable. Central locking with keys and remote plippers.6x matching Continentaltyres all round, approx. years old (one is brand new) – spare is fine.Drives very well. It isquite powerful being the 2.8 JTD 125BHP, so its nippy enough in traffic, butdoes slow down on motorway inclines – not great aerodynamics guess and it is4200kg gross weight. NB think this engine can be retuned/remapped if this isyour thing. Starts first time, nosmoke, never had any issues at all. Gearbox is little stiff when cold, butthis is normal. Very solid to drive, handles well. It is not as quiet in thecab as modern van, but lot better than the old 2.5td Hymer we used to have, where you had to shout to be heard. It is van for cruising, and is very good at this – posh ISRI suspension seats in the front, lots ofspace, good ergonomics. No aircon, it would be nice but presumably an expensiveoption at the time. Fresh MOT in July thisyear. No issues at all apart from some rust on end of exhaust pipe as anadvisory. In my ownership havedone the following: ·        Service and inspection July 2019 by Crozier Commercials (Wirral)·        One new Continental tyre at the back, due to puncture·        New Thule bike rack to replace the 2-bike rack (underway)·        New genuine Iveco gearshift selector cables (one fitted, the secondsupplied to you in case needed)·        Habitation inspection by Tern Caravans, local specialists (pass withflying colours)·        Two new 6kg propane tanks, barely used, with new high-pressure pigtails·        Sportscraft seat swivel for passenger seat·        New Yuasa L36-EFB leisure battery (these are ‘best buy’, check thereviews)·        Removed and washed every single cushion cover and curtain·        Full service/seal/valve replacement of WC tanks and flush system(underway)·        New Shurflo water pump·        Decent DAB/Bluetooth phone stereoBodyworkVery nice condition overall and this van isentirely watertight. No leaks or damp anywhere. The sealant in the seams is stillflexible and intact, the wall panels are straight and tidy. There are few marks and scuffs around the body asyou would expect from an 18-year-old van, some of the original gold paint onthe plastic lower trims and bumpers is flaking in places (helped by me on thefront bumper…). have removed the chrome bull bar on the front –quite flimsy aftermarket thing. Still got it, you can have it if you want it!Really good full-width locker underneath, plusladder for roof access. InteriorThe ceiling inside is pristine – this is the firstplace you see roof leaks, which leave watermarks and bumpy surface. We hadone leak in storm through the garage locker door seal, as it needed one ofits struts replacing so had dropped slightly against its seal. repaired thestrut, which seated the door correctly and for good measure bonded an aluminiumdrip rail above the locker door. So this is now completely fixed. Not carried pets or been smoked in – mywife and son are very allergic and have no issue at all in this van. It has self-contained bathroom withshower, basin and Thetford WC. Bathroom is inlovely condition – minimal fading on the plastic fittings, and the floor isperfect (so many of these show cracks). This has the marine holding tanks – donot be worried, the system works easily and perfectly, and you can use standardThetford cassette (supplied) to empty in all campsite disposal points. Fulltraining will be given!3 ring gas hob, gas oven, 3-way largefridge with separate freezer. All work perfectly. No issues at all. Gas poweredhot water system and heating by blown air with thermostat. All worksgreat.  Twin dinette seating areas, bottom bunklifts to create massive garage storage locker. Plenty of space in lockersunderneath too, with double floor for winter insulation (lockers and tanksheated too)Two large bunks, double over the cab,and double and single that can be made up from the dinettes. Two proper point seatbelts in the back, plus onelap belt. Nice grey modern fabric, far better than some of the crazyjungle-pattern fabric some of these have. Can be set up as two dinettes, or oneas side sofa, which is good spacious layout once you are camping, with thepassenger seat swivelled as well, everyone has their own space. Carpet over the wooden flooring. We have taken downmany of the curtains as we prefer simpler look, but all supplied and thetracks are still there. Pleasant light oak or ash woodwork. Not carried pets or been smoked in (my wife and sonboth allergic). No smells, no damage, it is all very nice indeed. Previousowner left an oil radiator on inside full-time. The mattresses are comfortableand supportive (we added memory foam topper to double over cab). All thewindows and blinds work. EquipmentNew Shurflo waterpump installed. Hot water boilerworks perfectly, even frost sensor valve which dumps water in freezingtemperatures. These are prone to failure but this one works, which is importantto avoid damage over winter. Hot blown air heater works great, thermostat worksfine. It takes 5-10 minutes to heat cold van, then settles down to whisperquiet mode. Gas cooker and oven both perfectly good. Two recent red propane 6kg canisters, only one usedthis summer but probably still at least half full. Full size fridge and separate freezer which workperfectly on gas, 12v and 240v. We spent 2-3 weeks in France this summer, tookfrozen milk cartons with us in freezer, driving hours day, half the holidayrunning on gas, half on hookup, these cartons stayed rock hard until we camehome! Fantastic bit of kit. Powerful enough to freeze fresh food too. NB you doneed to be quite level for it to work best on gas. Brand new leisure battery, on board charger worksfine on hookup, also charges correctly while driving. This van doesn’t have anysolar panels – might be nice addition to keep things topped up, it is on myfuture to-do list. Still has original Thetford WC system with holdingtanks. You may have read negative reviews of this system, as people are morefamiliar with the simple cassette toilets. Well do not be concerned: you doneed to be prepared to spend bit longer on the emptying, and think throughwhat you are doing in what order, but it is very simple. The upside is hugecapacity and proper powerful flush in the bowl. The WC can be swapped out fora more modern look if you want, but this one is perfectly OK and has years oflife left. It does need one valve replacing between upper andlower tank as the handle snapped off, luckily while in open position! The only effectof this is that the top tank remains connected to the lower tank: normally youfill the top one before dumping to the lower. This valve replacement is on mylist of jobs to do, see below!Came with an Omnistor bike rack – on returning homefrom France this year found crack in the aluminium frame, so have boughta full new 4-bike Thule rack (£350!) and will be fitting this in due course.Just needs some bathroom trim removing and replacing, so keep putting it off.It has satellite dish/aerial thing, no idea how(or if) this works, never used one! Has basic reverse sensor/camera system that looksa bit old-school, doesn’t really work, but at least the wiring is there if youwant to renew the gear. have most of the original equipment user manuals, the original Laika owners book and registration papers, old MoTs, lots of otherpaperwork. Plus am happy to share online resources and pdfs that have foundthis year. Jobs needing doing:I am prepared to attend to all these jobs if Iachieve my asking price: alternatively, if you are handy and want to tackle themyourself, then we can discuss the price to reflect this.Touch up gold paint around bumpers etcOne WC tank valve New Thule bike rack needs fittingElectric step works fine but needs adjustingFlyscreen door at rear needs new meshGarage/locker doorlatches little loose You are most welcome tocome and view, test drive if insured, bring an inspector or mechanic. am opento offers but am not desperate to sell – would rather wait for the rightperson who recognises the value of such well sorted van. Go and see therubbish ones, then come see mine :)You can call me on 07979 506 913. Located in CH48 postcode, West Kirby on the Wirral.
