Karmann Karuso (Volkswagen Transporter T4 based) Campervan4 seat (with belts), berth with bathroom.  109k miles (175k km)MoT until April 2018. No advisoriesNon-smoker's van
This is very rare opportunity to purchase Karmann Karuso. I’m aware of only handful of others in the UK. This van is quite unique in that its ingenious packaging means it has travelling seats (with belts), berths (2 good sized double beds), kitchen and bathroom (with shower) ,with enough height for 1.95m person, all in compact package – normal T4 width and only 5.5m long, which means it fits (just about) in normal parking space and is very easy to drive. We bought this in March 2016 after looking for months and agonising over finding something that’s manageable size (both for driving, and fitting on our drive) and the requirement to have seats with belts for the children, berths and my partner’s absolute must of having toilet/bathroom. It seemed to be an impossible ask, then we noticed Karuso on ebay. It was perfect layout for us and the professional nature of the van sets it apart. This set us on the search for better example. found this one in the Netherlands and imported it myself. couldn’t have been happier with the condition and cleanliness of the body. We’ve been all over in it; this year, up to Loch Lomond, then more recently the North Yorks coast, the Dales and finishing at carfest.   Layout:Description below, but you can probably see it best by looking at the original brochure: http://www.vwpix.org/T4/Prospekte/Deutschland/Reisemobile/Karmann/1993_09_Karmann_Karuso/.tmp/Seite0001.jpg.html  (click through on the top right of the picture) The van is based on long wheelbase T4 transporter, with an extension beyond the rear axle and high top roof. Karmann are famous coach builder (known not only for their campers, but also the Karmann Ghia and manufacturing many vehicles for major manufacturers such as Porsche, VW, Mercedes, Renault etc. The interior is fitted out with Karmann hard, moulded trim and the packaging and layout is very smart. It gets loads of attention from other campervan owners who are always impressed by the packaging and quality.

Cab: 2 swivelling captains chairsBench seat with point and point seatbelt. Table stores under this seat and unfolds and slots into the space between the rows of seats, so people can eat at the table. The control panel is above the rear seat and there are two lamps there. Lower bed:The seat slides out sideways, then piece folds down at the side (actually the bed is slightly wider than normal double). The bed unfurls from the seat base and rests on the rotated front seats. Finally, the backrest folds down to complete the bed. am 1.9m and comfortably fit on this bed.  Upper bed:Directly above the lower bed, the base slides out to full length (or away to give more headspace). It also pivots up and can be secured to the roof to further increase space (though this area is useful for storing bedding etc when you’re travelling, so we tend to keep it down).  Kitchen:Towards the rear of the cabin. The kitchen has loads of storage. built in SMEV double gas hob and sink, which is covered by folding cover. There are several, lower, large cupboards with loads of storage for food/whatever, one large upper cupboard and slimline upper cupboards. There is even built in cutlery storage unit and bin. The fridge has been replaced by power coolbox (before our ownership, but it keeps things very cold), but it sits in the same place. The sink cover laminate has suffered from the sunroof not being closed and rain dripping on the edge, which has delaminated it slightly (can be seen in the photos). There are lamps (one either side) in the kitchen. There is sunroof in the kitchen with pull out blind. Bi-fold door leading into...  Bathroom:Wet tray on the floor with raised, rubber mat. Sink, mirrors, light. Cupboard storage under the sink (medium size), small one behind one of the mirrors and giant cupboard on the other side. At the bottom of this cupboard, is the gas bottle and underneath is the toilet, which pulls out on hinge system (toilet is emptied from the rear of the van. For shower (though we’ve never actually had shower in there), the tap extends from the sink and into holder on the wall. Double glazed plastic window with clever fly screen or curtain blind that can be raised. Windows/curtains/glazing:The side windows (sliding door and the opposite side) can both slide open. From this point back, all the windows are double glazed. Fitted curtains on tracks cover all cabin windows with poppers, or sewn in Velcro to seal all gaps. The cab windows have separate fitted blind (one piece), which poppers into place from the B-pillar all the way round.  While not quite black out, they do keep it reasonably dark and the sound and thermal insulation is excellent.
Overall, the cabin is in very good condition, but obviously little bit of wear and tear here and there (primarily some peeling of the rubber coating of the outer seat trim) Equipment:Integrated bike rack for bikes.Omnistor wind out awning.70L fresh water tank50L waste water tankThetford Cassette integrated toiletTruma hot water system (gas powered)A/C/heat roof unit (electric powered) using an inverter. It will run off the battery for enough time to cool the cabin as long as the battery voltage isn’t too low. It’s relatively quiet and unobtrusive.Eberspcaher diesel heater (it starts and then shuts off, but we’ve never actually needed the heating and haven’t got round to find local eberspacher specialist).Calira charging systemControl panel showing battery voltage, fresh water tank level, grey water tank level, switch for lounge lighting, water pump switch and 240V socket (when on hookup)
The van itself:2.4 cylinder diesel. very tough engine, which whilst not quick, sounds lovely on account of the cylinders and will still pull the van along at 75-80 on the flat and returns 27-33mpg.The gearshift is smooth  and tight (I’ve replaced the gearshift bushes earlier this year) and the clutch smooth.
The body is in very good condition with no rust in the usual T4 places. The paint is nice overall, but there are few little marks around the van and some touched-in stone chips on the front.
The cabin has comfortable captain's chairs in very good condition, with no obvious wear (covers were fitted when we got the van and can come with it), there's CD player and ice cold air conditioning (with separate fan control for the rear cabin) The van drives really well and you forget the mass. It has comfortable, controlled ride and really enjoy driving it on country lanes – it’s not quick but it is satisfying to pick your line and drive smoothly. Being fairly narrow, it handles smaller roads with the same ease as car and the LHD presents no problems as you have such good visibility. It's also very handy for tolls if you're planning to take it abroad! Vehicle history:Originally from Germany, it lived for many years in Darmstadt before moving to Holland. think the 2nd owners in Holland were the people bought it off. They’d stored the van every winter in barn and its condition is testament to that. It has non of the normal T4 rust.It has VW stamped service history from VW Darmstadt until 85k miles and have invoices from Bosch garage in Holland. In my ownership, I’ve done all the work myself, which is supported by invoices for parts.Recent work:Oil change, oil filter and air filterCoolant changed (and double flushed to new VW standard coolant)Inner and outer tie rods (the only advisory from 2016 clean bill in 2017)Gearshift bushes renewedNew Michelin Agilis tyres on the front. Conti Vanco Contact on the rear with ~4-5mm remaining.

So why are we selling? Well it's taken some lengthy deliberation and we're not sure if we're doing the right thing, but it's time to spend some time and money on the house and perhaps think about getting another campervan in few years time (in fact I'd love it if the buyer would keep my details and let me know if they decide to sell in the future.)
I've tried to cover everything, but please ask if there's anything else you'd like to know I've quite few more photos. Viewing is welcome. We're just north of Milton Keynes (about 15 mins from M1 J15). Call on 07779164993
